UNM Graduate student Annie Montes will talk about her current research.  Her thesis work aims to understand how mycorrhizal communities associated with piñon changed after local piñon extirpation. Piñon and its associated mycorrhizal partners are dependent on each other, or in other words, they cannot survive without each other. Her thesis work demonstrates how drastically these fungal communities change after the removal of piñon. The results of her study will help with replanting and conservation efforts in piñon-juniper woodlands.
